Wow! This summer has been flying by already! There is so much to read and so little time! I had envisioned having my own little summer reading soiree, sitting by the pool enjoying all these great books. That’s why I chose two amazing books to read for the Book Brigade during the month of June. I was not accounting for nearly chopping my finger off with a food processor blade and having to stay away from pool water. Now add to my mix that, when we did get to the pool, my son washed my phone with the pool towels while trying to be helpful. You could say that Periscoping about these amazing books has been quite a bit more challenging than I had expected!
Satan Can’t Stop Us!
When you are getting ready to do something good, Satan puts all kinds of things in your way. Click To TweetYou have probably heard the old adage that when you are getting ready to do something good, Satan puts all kinds of things in your way. I believe that is partially what has been going on with the Book Brigade this month. These books have such great tips and knowledge, that Satan doesn’t want us to read, or for me to share what I am learning! That is all the more reason for you and I to grab a copy of these books, get out there, and start reading and applying what we are learning! No matter what tries to get in our way, let’s get out there and make this happen! Watch for me on Periscope @MinivanMin, as well as on Facebook Live. I will be talking about these amazing books. We will be changed for the better!
Submit yourselves therefore to God.Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7 ESV
Raising Real Men
Every time I pick up Raising Real Men: Surviving, Teaching and Appreciating Boys, I am blown away by the practical knowledge and wisdom that pours out. I have learned sound, biblical advice on raising my son in such areas as what to do if he wants to play with guns and when and how to loosen the reigns so they can learn to be leaders. Raising Real Men: Surviving, Teaching and Appreciating Boys is a must read if you have boys!
Bringing Up Girls
If you have girls, Bringing Up Girls: Practical Advice and Encouragement for Those Shaping the Next Generation of Women may be more your speed. It teaches parents how to train their daughters to deal with the demands of the world and equip them to make good choices. It addresses topics such as what it truly means to be a lady, the female obsession with beauty, adolescence, and invasive technology. Check out Bringing Up Girls: Practical Advice and Encouragement for Those Shaping the Next Generation of Women for powerful and sound advice.
The Mission Minded Family
The Mission-Minded Family: Releasing Your Family to God’s Destiny is another great book that is for the entire family. I am especially excited about this one because I have met the author, Ann Dunagan. She is such a sweet, genuine woman who truly has a heart for missions. She is bursting with joy and love for the Lord, so I know her book will be no different. Teaching our children to care for others and share the love of Jesus is one of our main goals for them. That makes The Mission-Minded Family: Releasing Your Family to God’s Destiny a must-read!

I wasn’t really impressed with Dobson’s book, Bringing Up Girls, but I’m a really picky reader when it comes to non-fiction. I have been eyeing The Mission Minded Family though. It’s been hovering in my cart on Amazon all month.

I don’t really know of any parenting books that I’ve read that stands out. My kids are grown now, married and have kids of their own. I raised them in church and I’d love to buy them these books for raising their own kids. I’d love to read The Mission-Minded Family: Releasing Your Family to God’s Destiny.

These are great choices. The one by Dobson looks great. I always say I’m going to read by the pool but never do.

I do have a lot to do with summer reading & these are some good collections related to faith & I would love to read almost all of them. I agree that teaching our children to care for others & share the love of Jesus is so important.

Love this assortment – sounds like the two “raising boys” and “raising girls” look so important and probably have wonderful tips…. we all know boys and girls are so so different! Thanks for sharing!

These are great! I actually have both the boy and girl book on my to read list… I’ve just been very anti-non-fiction after burning out on it a while back… might be time to test the waters again…
