Wouldn’t it be nice to know that God had a divine plan for your life?  A plan not just for you, but a plan to use you for big things? If you are a Christian, you probably already know that He does!  You are an important part of God’s plan.  You believe it for your children.  Now believe it for yourself!

You are part of God’s plan. You believe it for your children. Now believe it for yourself! Click To Tweet

But we all forget sometimes.  There are times when our lives seem dull and pointless, or overwrought with troubles.  It is in times such as those that it helps to be reminded that God has a plan, that he is orchestrating every hardship into a glorious plan for His kingdom.  That is what When Jesus Was a Green-Eyed Brunette, by Max Davis, is all about.

Jesus is Still With Us Today

In this season of Christmas, we are reminded that Jesus came as a baby to bring peace and love to the world.  Christmas isn’t just for children.  It’s for everyone.  God wants us to know that He still delivers peace and love to the hearts of all who will accept Him.

Sometimes we need a reminder that that same Jesus is still with us today, powerfully working in us. He is using ordinary people in extraordinary ways.  When Jesus Was a Green-Eyed Brunette was filled with reminders of how God can take an ordinary life and (sometimes literally) speak purpose and direction into it.

For he himself is our peace…” Ephesians 2:14 ESV

God Wants to use You

Not only is he using “people” this way, but God wants to use you too!  Chances are it won’t be with an audible voice, but that doesn’t matter.  You are to be the hands and feet of Christ–to your families, to your community, and to the world!  Sure you can do good, but God wants to do good through you.  He can work supernaturally in your life.  We just have to be open to his leading and willing to listen to the nudges of the Holy Spirit.  When we act on them, we shouldn’t be surprised that God is working in ways we would have never imagined.

And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.” Isaiah 30:21 ESV

A Dose of Encouragement

But now, O Lord, you are our Father;

   we are the clay, and you are our potter;

   we are all the work of your hand.” Isaiah 64:8 ESV

When Jesus Was a Green-Eyed Brunette was the dose of encouragement I have been needing.  Life has been like the old adage, “If it weren’t for bad news, there would be no news at all.”  Maybe you, like me, have needed some examples of how God has done mighty things.  Maybe you also need the reminder that God wants to do amazing things through you.  Here is one of my favorite quotes from the book:

Through it all, Christ is constantly working…My unique calling involves journalism and writing.  For you, it will be something that fits your personal DNA…Don’t try to be normal.  It will mess you up.”

    I haven’t heard of this book before. Sometimes we need that reminder that He has a plan for us, and He only allows those things into our lives that will make us more like Christ.

    Hi Tara,
    I’ve read a number of book reviews, and sometimes it seems like they’re not much more than a synopsis. I’m glad you discussed even the way the book affected you: “encouraged.” The giveaway at the end is a great idea.
