For some, new year’s resolutions are a thing of the past. If you choose to do it the right way, however, new year’s resolutions can be life-changing. Set goals that are measurable and realistic. Before the year begins, you must decided to give yourself grace and not expect perfection. You must decide that when you fail, you are going to get back on your feet and go for it again. It is all about commitment.
Once you have the right attitude, you need to set meaningful, measurable goals. Many of the typical goals are hard for a mom to follow. It’s difficult for a mom to do something just for herself. Even though you shouldn’t, you feel selfish and don’t want to take time away from your family. Here are some new year’s resolutions that won’t make you feel the least bit guilty. They will be great, even life-changing, for both you AND your family.

Worship Together
Commit to having family worship together on a regular basis. If you are new to this, don’t feel like you have to do it every day. Shoot for something obtainable first, like 3 days a week. Then up your goal as you are ready. If you need ideas, check out the Family Worship section of Minivan Ministries. That will be one of our major focuses in the upcoming year, so we will be adding fresh relevant ideas often. If you simply spend a few minutes reading straight from the Bible, there is nothing more life-changing than the Word!
And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7 ESV
Play Together
Nothing bonds the family together like some good old fashioned fun. Click To TweetThis is a fun resolution. Isn’t it crazy that it doesn’t always come naturally? Nothing bonds the family together like some good old fashioned fun. “The family that plays together stays together!” This year, I challenge you to be specific. You may want to commit to spending a few minutes per day with each of your children. You might commit to having a monthly date with your kids. You could even take the opportunity to set up a regular date night with your spouse if you don’t have one already. It’s healthy for your kids to see that you prioritize each other. Playing together will strengthen family bonds that can last a lifetime!
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35 ESV
Get Healthy Together
Your family can get healthy together! Click To TweetSo many moms sabotage their goals of health because they don’t have time to cook completely separate for their families. It can also be difficult to get away and exercise. You want healthy kids, so what if you folded your health goals into that of your family?
Find healthy meals the kids might like and give them time to adjust their taste buds. Let your kids plan meals and cook with you so they feel invested in the new meals. Making a goal to plan and shop on specific days will help you stick with your plan. Assigning each child a night to help cook can be helpful too.
Go on family walks and run around and play together outside. Games and activities such as soccer, hiking, and tennis can be fun for the whole family. Find physical activities to do together at least three times per week.
Your whole family will reap health benefits that can improve the quality of their lives. It will be easier to stick to your goals when your reach them together. Be sure to check out the blog over the next few weeks to get ideas for how your family can get healthy together.
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV

Great ideas! Amen on the worship together. Life can get tough, but having a worshiping frame of mind can do wonders, especially when the whole family is in it together.
Andrea says
I could agree on almost all of them – I could definitely pray more (and worship more) – and I could definitely step up my game healthwise

I once was told that we were given free will to accept to freely live as we should. Praying and not stopping, worshiping in daily life and taking care of our health would fall under the lines to me of taking care of what we need to do
