Here is some more iconic fall fun with…popcorn!

Have fun with this outline.  Feel free to add your own unique twists and share them in the comments below!

Whooo is God? An Autumn Family Bible Adventure

Popcorn:  God Can Change Us From the Inside Out

Intro: Do you like popcorn?  Do you know what makes popcorn pop?  Popcorn pops when the water inside expands from the heat, forcing the kernel to almost literally turn inside out.

Here is a video that explains the popping process.

Check out this video that shows popcorn popping in slow motion.

Thoughts to Ponder:  You have probably heard the saying, “It’s what’s on the inside that counts.”  The water is what counts in a popcorn kernel.  It should be around 13.5% to pop well.  Without the right amount of water, the popcorn doesn’t pop to be big and fluffy, or it may not pop at all.

In a person, it is what is in our heart that counts.  God looks at the inside. He cares about what we think and feel.  It is what is inside, that causes us to act the way we do or say the things we say.  Just like pressure causes the popcorn to pop, when we are under pressure, our thoughts and feelings come out. We aren’t perfect, but with God’s help, we can make sure that our hearts are kind, so that good things come from our lives.

Prayer:   Dear God, please help us to love you and love others from the inside out.  Spend some time praying about situations that make it hard for you to do the right thing.  Ask God to help you.

Key Verses:

“I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.”  Jeremiah 17:10 NIV

“But what comes out of the mouth comes from the heart, and this defiles a man.”  Matthew 15:18 HCSB

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23 NIV

Getting Personal:  What is in your heart that you want to change?  What are some ways you can make your heart pleasing to God and to others?

Worship:

*If you have toddlers or preschoolers, you may want to sing “The Popcorn Song”  just for for fun.

Sing “Good Fruit (Apples Don’t Grow On Pear Trees)” by Rain for Roots.  I absolutely looove this song!  The whole CD is pretty awesome!

Family Adventures:

  • Enjoy some popcorn together as a family.  You could have a family movie night to go with your popcorn!
  • Try a new popcorn recipe like this.

Spread the Love:

  • Give someone some popcorn to show you are “bursting” with appreciation for them.
