This yummy treat can be eaten any time of year, but our family enjoys this rich, warm goodness most at a fall family campout.
I have provided a basic outline, not a word-for-word format, because your children will enjoy hearing things from your perspective. Thier answers and understanding will dictate how deep your conversations go and what direction they will take. Have fun!
Whooo is God? An Autumn Family Bible Adventure
S’mores: God is A Gracious, Loving Provider, Giving Us “S’more” Than We Deserve or Can Imagine
Intro: What is your favorite fall treat? Do you like s’mores?
Here are some fun S’mores facts to get your taste buds going!
Prayer: Did you know that the word “S’more” is actually a contraction? “S’more” is made up of what 2 words? Some more! Talk and pray about some of the things you might need “some more” of in your life. Perhaps you need more health, peace, wisdom about a certain situation, time with a loved one?
Thoughts to Ponder: What would it be like if you had some more of the really good stuff in your life? What if you had more love? More hugs? More time to play? More energy? A deeper understanding of God? Insert whatever you know your loved ones might need more of!
Key Verses:
“20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen.” Ephesians 3:20 NIV
This verse doesn’t actually say “some” more. It says “immeasurably” more. That is our God! He doesn’t want to just give us a little, or some, of the good stuff. He wants to give us an immeasurable amount!
“The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and rich in faithful love. He will not always accuse us or be angry forever. He has not dealt with us as our sins deserve or repaid us according to our offenses. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His faithful love toward those who fear Him.” Psalm 103:8-11 HCSB
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” Matthew 7:11 HCSB
God wants to give us good gifts–immeasurable gifts! But we do need to ask.
Getting Personal:
What is something that you feel God would like to see more of in your life? Peace, understanding, a kind heart toward family, obedience? This may be a good time to point out that God’s good gifts are better than our ideas of good gifts. While we may want lots of money and toys, God wants to give us gifts for our heart like, hope and a future!
What steps could you take to begin getting more of this in your life?
Pray for God to give you strength and wisdom as you try to develop more of this in your life.
Worship:
*If you have toddlers or preschoolers, you may want to sing “Smores” just for for fun.
*If you also might like “The S’more Song” just for for fun. Great percussion!
God loves us S’more than we can imagine! Sing Matthew West’s “More.”
Family Adventures:
Make S’mores together. Bonus if you can do it around a campfire!
Make S’mores cards to give to someone who might need a pick-me-up. (See my Fall Pinterest Board.)You can pick one of these or create your own “S’more” phrase to use on it like ”God loves you S’more than you know!” or “I love you S’more and S’more each day!”
Try a healthier version of the traditional treat!
Spread the Love: Give a S’more in a bag to a neighbor or friend. Or kick it up a notch…make several and deliver them to some of your service providers–your local librarians, music or Sunday School teachers, or anyone who serves your children!
