Doing Bible study with your family should be a top priority.  In a world that is screaming values that aren’t Christian friendly, it is important to get our families into the Bible daily.  Family Bible study can be a challenge though.  Where can you find resources that will help your children in their journey?  Luckily for you there are some family Bible studies you will fall in love with…

Consider These When Looking For a Family Bible Study You Will Fall in Love With…

  • Is it biblically sound?
  • Does it actually include Bible verses, not just talk about the Bible? (Baby Bibles might be the exception to this, but even they often use paraphrases of verses.)
  • Is it applicable to your lives? (If it’s in the Bible, the answer is most likely “yes!”  There will be some studies, however, that might be a bit more appealing to your family at different stages of life.)
  • Can everyone in the family participate on some level?

That’s the basics of finding a family Bible study you will fall in love with in a nutshell!  Sure, you could also ask, “Is it fun?”   That’s always an added bonus.  It’s not the most important component.  You can present almost anything in a fun way.

Sometimes, however, you need to tackle hard topics.  You need to trust and pray that God will guide your Family Bible Study time.  He will draw your family near to Him, not because they are having fun, but because He loves your family.  He wants your family to know Him in a real and personal way.

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 ESV

Future Flying Saucers

Object lessons make learning hands-on and memorable.  Future Flying Saucers has lots of great object lessons.  I recently had the privilege of writing two that can be found there…Fruit of the Spirit Fruit Salad and Follow Jesus.  Object lessons are fun to incorporate along with your other studies to mix things up. Anne Marie Gosnell of Future Flying Saucers also has a new book out,   Walk This Way: Ethics and Sanctification Lessons for Kids.

Kim Sorgius Bible Studies

Kim Sorgius of Not Consumed writes Bible studies for children that are incredibly applicable to their lives. Some topics include contentment, getting along with your sibling, and obedience. Check out My Brother’s Keeper Junior: Learning to love your siblings God’s way and Because I Said So: A Biblical Study of Obedience.  (I don’t know about you, but we have really needed the one about siblings at our house!)  These workbooks are available for juniors (4-8 years) or youth (6-14 years).

Truth for Kids

If an quick online study is something you need, I recommend Truth for Kids.  You get a quick devotional that you can read directly, with a questions at the end.  This may not be too in-depth, but it is great for busy seasons of life.  It’s also good for those busy nights that you just need something different.   They also have a book to help your family walk through the Bible,   The Bible Made Easy – for Kids.

Pieces of the Promise

This one is great for active learners.  Pieces of the Promise devotion puzzles allow children to complete a puzzle while they are listening to a Bible story.  Doing something physical while listening to the story aids comprehension and helps the brain make connections.  My children really enjoyed this one and were immediately asking to do it again.  You can read a previous review of this product for more information.

The Bible

Finding a family Bible study you will fall in love with doesn’t have to be difficult. Click To Tweet

Finding a family Bible study you will fall in love with doesn’t have to be difficult.  You don’t need special books or equipment.  You really can just open up the Bible and read.  God promises that something that simple will still reap huge results.  You just need to trust and do it.  You can start with the something easy for children to understand, like the gospels.  Read small sections with expression.  Then discuss what you have read.  Talk about how it applies to your lives today.

For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:10-11 ESV

I love the idea of the pieces of the promise! My daughter loves stories and lessons, but tends to need to talk or fidget, this might help her focus that part of her brain. Awesome resources! Thanks, Tara!

I am always looking for good sound Bible studies that I can get my kids involved with. Having really young kids sometimes makes it challenging to keep them engaged and focused. Thank you for sharing these resources. I can’t wait to check them out.

Thank you for sharing these resources!! My little boy is almost to the age to be ready for one of these. I love that you made the point that the Bible itself is all that’s really needed! But it is nice to have a guide to use too!

As the saying goes, “A family that prays together stays together” As children grow up and have to make their relationship with God their own as parents it is vital while they are young to equip them with the proper tools. As a mom, I know family Bible studies are what they will go back too if they wander away because Jesus goes looking for the lost sheep. Thanks for sharing these resources and standing upon His truth!

My youngest son loves a good Bible study. My older boys have started pulling back from the idea. That just means I need to get more creative in what I find for them to do.

I know I try to read more about the study’s author and their affiliation to make sure there isn’t a major conflict. Some people are great about being general and not using just one translation of the Bible. But, others are definitely tied with a particular denomination.

I haven’t really found any that I like yet for that age specifically, but there are a few good things on YouTube. You have to prescreen them, though, because you never know what you will get. My son that age likes apologetics studies. Please let me know if you find some!
