What is a Picnic Parade?
Spring is in the air…and so is spring fever! It’s time to get back outside and enjoy the beautiful world that God created. Nothing says spring like a good picnic! Unfortunately for us, the school year is yet to be over. There is still work to be done and curriculum to complete. If only there were a way to combine these last days of school with the fun of spring…Oh wait! There is! Enter the Picnic Parade!
The Picnic Parade is an opportunity for you to gather some ideas from a few of my creative friends. Over the next few weeks, they will be sharing some fantastic picnic themes that will help you infuse fun and education into the rest of your homeschool year. Or, if you prefer, use these ideas to host summer picnics and encourage summer reading.
Why Is It Important to Carve Out Time for a Picnic?
“A family is a place where principles are hammered and honed on the anvil of everyday living.” ~ Chuck Swindoll
I’m not sure even one of us feels that we don’t lead a somewhat hectic life. In the hustle and bustle, fun and family bonding is often the first thing that gets pushed to the side. This is not our intent, but we just get distracted by the demands of life. It is important that we carve out time to make memories with our children. We all have to eat, so take advantage of this time together!
I will never be the perfect Proverbs 31 woman, but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be the best mother and wife that I can be. Click To TweetThe candid truth is that I spend way too much time herding my children through life, trying to get through lessons and chores. I don’t want to be remembered as the mom always fussing, “Hurry up!” I want to be the mom who took time to sit and enjoy life and our family. I want photos and memories of us sitting and enjoying each other. I want love and fun to be the first thoughts that come to mind when my kids remember their childhood. I make no bones about the fact that I will never be the perfect Proverbs 31 woman, but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be the best mother and wife that I can be.
Her children rise up and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
‘Many women have done excellently,
but you surpass them all.’” Proverbs 31:28-29 ESV

Slowly down and being present, as well as enjoying time and moments with my family is something that crosses my mind at least once a week.

Sounds like a fun gathering that requires creativity. I love the idea though.
We are always SO ready for spring to really arrive! After months of long Maine winter weather, spring is such a welcome blessing. We always end up at the beach when the weather gets warm enough to spend the day there!
I want to be that mom too….the one who has time to sit and enjoy the moments before they are gone. At school this week, my four year old learned about camping & picnicing. Since he has only been home in the states for 18 months, I guess we’ve ignored these great family festivities. It’s time for me to get up and go!
That is wonderful! Where is your daughter from? My son is from China. I hope you get to enjoy many picnics and camping trips together this season and in the future!
Well…now that the weather is warming up in NY…. 🙂
