May is upon us! School will be out soon! That means graduation parties, days by the pool, and doing a little more of whatever we want! With that in mind, our May Book Brigade book will be a historical fiction book that we are doing just for fun–Francine River’s Redeeming Love. It’s a wildly popular one that I have never read, but want to check out. Join me for some fun and share your thoughts!
The Plot
Redeeming Love is set in 1850 in the heart of California’s Gold Country. Angel is a prostitute who begins to fall for a Christian man who takes her as his bride. He teaches her about how to rely on God for healing, but there are ups and downs. Her husband listens to God and remains faithful, teaching us all a lesson about forgiveness and restoration.
Sound familiar? This story is an allegory of Gomer and Hosea. We will coordinate our book fun with a study of Hosea as well. I’ve been in church my whole life, but this still isn’t a story I know well. I am looking forward to learning more about it. I hope you are too!
And the Lord said to me, “Go again, love a woman who is loved by another man and is an adulteress, even as the Lord loves the children of Israel, though they turn to other gods…” Hosea 3:1 ESV
Book Brigade Schedule
For the month of May, I am going to keep our Book Brigade fun on Tuesday nights at 8pm CST @MinivanMin as I have in the past. Look for a change of time coming in June and July. We will move to an earlier time those months. I want you to get out and enjoy those last hours of sunshine in the evenings!
This book has not disappointed! I have had several late nights because I could not put the book down!

May 10–Chapters 1-11
May 17–Chapters 12-15
May 24–Chapters 16-25

Until then…
What is on your summer reading list? What do you like to read just for fun?

I haven’t added much to my reading list but this book sounds interesting. I don’t know the story very well about Gomer and Hosea so I need to brush up on that, too!

I just finished this book last week! It came highly recommended by so many of my readers and does not disappoint. Beware, you might be tempted to ignore the rest of your life and devour it in a hurry. Just saying. 😉 I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

This is one of my all-time favorite books. I had Francine Rivers for a four day writing class and she’s lovely! She studies Scripture (for this one Hosea) and researches every part of her subject. She just doesn’t write fast enough for me. I’ll peek into the study sometime.

Oh, I love this book! This was my first every book by Francine Rivers. I was 19 (many years ago!) and I couldn’t put it down. Have fallen in love with her writing and heart for God ever since.

I am definitely going to have to read more of her work myself!
