My husband and I have something that we call an “Honest Minute.” It’s not that we aren’t always honest with each other, but sometimes you just need to say something that is blunt, to the point, and not always pleasant for the listener to hear. Recently, we had one of these moments. There wasn’t one particular thing that caused it, per say, just a lot of things that perhaps you can relate to. Sometimes you just need an honest minute to lay it all out there and express your feelings.
I had reached my boiling point. In all transparency, I have what I consider to be a good life. I love my husband and the three children we have been blessed with, but this parenting thing is HARD. Life can be hard.
Life is Hard
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 ESV
I think my kids had reached the end of their ropes too. They were bickering with each other constantly. One of my greatest desires is for my children to be close to each other, so every ugly word was a knife to my heart. Along with that came high anxieties and fears. My easy-going child was starting to pick up little tendencies from the others and become anxious as well.
This is where the Honest Minute came in. I just needed A BREAK. It is so hard for a mom to say, “I need a break.” Do you need a break from your family? A break from providing for them or meeting their needs? The answer is, “Yes!” Yes, mommas, you do! I had to admit this to my husband. I told him how I was feeling, that I felt like a failure at everything. In perfect transparency, I felt like I had devoted my life to my children, but what if they didn’t turn out the way I hoped they would. What if they were not okay in the end? Was my life a waste?
These are the dark questions we are afraid to ask. But I went there and wrestled with them. I didn’t feel better immediately after my honest minute with my husband. It took a few days, but letting him know that I needed a few minutes for me allowed me to have a little breathing room. I had to tap into what I knew fueled me as an individual.
I started doing art again and listened to podcasts. And I prayed.
An Unexpected Gift
It was during these days of frustration that I received a Butterfly Box in the Mail. All kids like to get mail and I am a big kid inside. I like packages. (You know you love it when you see an Amazon box, too!) It is even better when you don’t know what is inside. This is how it was with my Butterfly Box.
The Butterfly Box is a monthly subscription box for Chrisitan women. Each month it delivers a little hope and inspiration to your door. That is what I found when I opened the box. It came in the form of a beautiful leatherbound prayer book, a journal to pour out my prayers in an honest minute with God, a bracelet to help me feel feminine and beautiful, calming tea, and a prayer card to direct my wayward thoughts.
Here are the specifics:
- The Power of a Praying® Woman
- Be Still and Know Journal
- Butterfly Prayer Bracelet
- Vanilla White & Sweet Peppermint Tea Drops
- Weekly Prayer Strategy Card
While many of us moms like to tote ourselves as not being materialistic, let’s have an honest minute. Sometimes we need something tangible to lift our spirits. After all, gifts is one of the five love languages! This little gift helped me refocus on what I had been missing the last few weeks. And, just like God always does, He worked through this blessing so it came just when I needed it. He crafted the perfect gift for the perfect time.
