I was given a copy of Indescribable in exchange for an honest review. I can honestly say that before I learned that I was chosen to do a review, I picked up this book in the bookstore and got very excited about it! All thoughts and opinions on it are completely my own.
None of us can describe the indescribable love of God, yet that is exactly what we are called to do! We must shine God’s light and show others a glimpse of God. This is the only way that we can win others for Christ so that they can share in His kingdom. But how do we describe something that is indescribable, especially to young children?
Pointing to God’s Indescribable Love

Famous Christian worship artist, Chris Tomlin, wrote a song about how indescribable our God is. You may not have even thought about the science of creation included in the song. Here are they lyrics from just one verse and the chorus…
Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go
Or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow
Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light
Yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night
None can fathom.
Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name
You are amazing God
All powerful, untameable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God
You are amazing God
Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;
make melody to our God on the lyre!
8 He covers the heavens with clouds;
he prepares rain for the earth;
he makes grass grow on the hills.
9 He gives to the beasts their food,
and to the young ravens that cry.
10 His delight is not in the strength of the horse,
nor his pleasure in the legs of a man,
11 but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him,
in those who hope in his steadfast love.” Psalms 147:7-11 ESV
A Sermon Pointing to God’s Indescribable Love
Louie Giglio, a famous Christian pastor, created a sermon entitled “Indescribable.” In it, he discusses the indescribable world that God created, as well as how science and creation point back to God. He notes that it is our job to share that amazing world with others. He reflects on the enormousness of our universe and our God. Conversely, he points out our smallness. I highly recommend taking some time to listen to this sermon. He includes amazing photos of the universe. It would be a great addition for families studying the solar system!
A New Book Pointing to God’s Indescribable Love
Indescribable: 100 Devotions for Kids About God and Science is a new devotion based on Louie Giglio’s sermon. Each devotion starts with a Bible verse that is tied to a scientific fact, many of which will be new, even to adults! Facts about space, earth, animals, and people are presented. Illustrations and photos attempt to describe God’s indescribable world. It’s all tied together with a prayer at the end.
Indescribable: 100 Devotions for Kids About God and Science is a great book for any family to use for devotions. We are using it to begin our school day. We want to start our day pointing to God. Indescribable: 100 Devotions for Kids About God and Science will also point to how everything we are learning in our day points us back to God and equips us to share Him with others.
Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name;
make known his deeds among the peoples!” Psalms 105:1 ESV

There may be scientific “facts” that seemingly contradict the idea of a creator. When you think about it, science merely points to the fact that we have an AMAZING Creator who really knew what he was doing when he designed this indescribable world. Let’s use science as a tool to win our children and others to Christ!
