Summer is officially here! There are a million reading programs that encourage your kids to keep reading over the summer. (In fact, I even thought about creating one.) Then I realized that there really wasn’t any need to reinvent the wheel. What I have not seen this year is program that encourages families to worship together. Isn’t that more important than anything?
Summer Bible Blast
Summer Bible Blast is packed with more than 30 ways to worship with your family. Click To TweetSo here it is…the Summer Bible Blast! It’s packed with more than 30 ways to worship with your family. During these summer months you might have a little more time. You can put that time to good use worshipping God and drawing closer to Him. Hopefully it will become a habit that you continue into the fall and beyond.
Why Should You Make Time for the Summer Bible Blast?
Church-going children spend an average of 50 hours a year at church compared to 1000 hours in school. Click To TweetMost church-going children spend an average of 50 hours a year at church. Part of that is typically comprised of playtime and snacks. Compare that to the 1000 hours per year the typical child spends in school. Who do you think is going to have the greater influence? WHAT YOU DO AT HOME MATTERS! Even if you just took 10 minutes per day (even 10 minutes while you were traveling in the van!), that would be over 60 hours extra focussed solely on God. Compound this by the fact that it is coming from the parents, the most influential people in the life of a child. It all boils down to this…TEACH YOUR CHILD TO SPEND TIME WITH JESUS!
“You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 19 You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you are walking by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 20 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, 21 that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, as long as the heavens are above the earth.” Deuteronomy 11:18-21 ESV
Prizes and Rewards
Talk it over with your family. Write down what your rewards will be for completing specific numbers of activities. I have included a few suggestions for you. Sprinkle in your family favorites as well. Check out my Summer Pinterest Board or my Family Time Board for more ways to have fun with your family. There is no greater reward for a child than for them to spend quality time with their parents!
Make sure to take photos of your family participating in the the Summer Bible Blast and hashtag them #SummerBibleBlast. It’s a great way to encourage other families to join in the fun and study the Bible too. You will be missionaries sharing the love of Jesus without even leaving your own home!

This is an awesome way to bring more families into worship. I hate to admit that this reminded me that I haven’t written in my journal in so long. So one bought me a journal that allows you to write your daily thought and read the entire bible in the course of a year.

What a great idea to make the most of our time! As a family, we memorize Scripture and study the bible together. We hope to continue to do that.

I found it interesting the comparison between the time spent in school versus the time spent in church. 50 hours does not seem like a lot.

Wow, so scary how much time & influence has been given over to others!! We homeschool ourselves, but only some of our children. And even then, it can feel like so much time is spent with doing this & that (extra curriculars, etc.) that we really do need to be purposeful in teaching the things of God 🙂

Wow, when you break it down into the hours, it is scary how much more time we spend on secular learning instead of God’s word. Definitely will be using our bibles and devotionals for our curriculum next year for sure!
