Even Jesus, in all His perfection, needed time to rest, as did His disciples.
…Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.” Mark 6:31-32 NIV
I have been dying to read this month’s Book Brigade book , Teaching from Rest: A Homeschooler’s Guide to Unshakable Peace, since I first heard about it’s release a few months ago. It’s written by Sarah Mackenzie, who blogs at Amongst Lovely Things and hosts the Read-Aloud Revival podcast. It sounds like a crazy concept, doesn’t it? Being able to teach FROM REST? Teach from being prepared. Teach from knowledge. Teach from excitement about the topic. But teach from rest? No way! Who has time to rest?
If that sounds like you, then you definitely need to participate in this month’s Book Brigade! Learn to teach your children FROM REST. If you are more refreshed, you will be a better teacher. You will be better received, and your kids will learn more from you. But how can you do that? Join me and we will find out!
Grab a copy of Teaching from Rest: A Homeschooler's Guide to Unshakable Peace. Tuesdays at 8pm CST on Periscope @Minivanmin. Click To TweetGrab a copy of Teaching from Rest: A Homeschooler’s Guide to Unshakable Peace and join us. Scheduled Scopes are on Tuesdays at 8pm CST on Periscope @Minivanmin. If you can’t, then please catch the replay. Links will be posted on Facebook, and Twitter, as well as on Katch.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NIV
Take care of yourself so that you will be strong to focus on the Lord and all He has in store for you and your teaching!
What Happens After March???
Even though our Teaching from Rest: A Homeschooler’s Guide to Unshakable Peace study will officially be over, we won’t stop there! I love scoping about homeschool. Teaching from rest is a really important part of that! Together we really can change! You can watch my old homeschool scopes or follow my new ones on Periscope @MinivanMin.
Plus, if you are a fan of Teaching from Rest: A Homeschooler’s Guide to Unshakable Peace, you may also want to check out Sally Clarkson’s books. They are great! I recently discovered them. (I know. I guess I was living under a rock!) We also happen to be doing her new book for our April Book Brigade, so go ahead and grab a copy of The Lifegiving Home: Creating a Place of Belonging and Becoming! You might want to check out The Lifegiving Home Experience: A 12-Month Guided Journey workbook to help you put the plan into action as well.
How do you bring peacefulness to your home? How do you rest and refresh yourself so that you are ready to disciple your children?

I was surprised at how small the book actually was! If you can’t read it though, please join us for the Periscope talk anyway and you can glean some of the information!

Hey Tara,
That sounds like an excellent book for home-school families. Our family stays refreshed by being intentional about making time for self-care, as well as fun events together as a family. When everyone is taking time to rest, life goes so much better when things get busy during the week.
Yesterday, Jenny and I were able to leave the kiddos with their Aunt, and escape for breakfast and a walk on the beach. It was incredible. It’s the simple things like this, that keep us refreshed and going 🙂
Wishing you and your family a blessed week!

I am not a homeschooler, but I LOVE this concept. Our lives should be lived from rest in Christ. 🙂

This sounds like a great book. I plan on homeschooling whenever my princess gets big enough and this sounds like I book I should invest in. My method of keeping peace right now is being intentional about my tone and trying to be patient. Good review!
