Every Coin Has 2 Sides
Black Fridays Past
I used to adore Black Friday. Thanksgiving evening was all about plotting my moves for the next day. I lived for the rush of cold wind as I waited in line for the store to open, moving swiftly through the crowds with sure feet and a beating heart. Even the traffic was invigorating, but not so much as snatching up that perfect gift and holding it tightly in my arms until I arrived at checkout. I likened it to being on a hunt and coming home with the perfect catch.
Black Friday Present
Now I wait with bated breath every year, praying my husband’s store won’t decide that they need to be among those deciding to open their doors on Thanksgiving day. The crowds are frustrating and saddening as they fight over the items on the store shelves. If my parents aren’t around to watch my children so I can head out…forget it. There is NO way I am taking them out into that madness!
Torn in 2 Directions
So you see, I have been on both sides of the Black Friday Debacle coin. I still miss the spectacle of Black Friday a bit. Now I sit on my couch in my jammies and enjoy the deals the internet has to offer. A few days later, all my gifts are delivered to my door, even boxed up so the little ones can’t peak in any bags and ruin the surprises.
What Will You Do?
Consider those who work retail and their families. Our kids want their Daddy with them. Click To TweetSend the Stores a Message
You must make your own choice about Black Friday, but I do ask that you consider those who work retail and their families–stay away on Thanksgiving Day. If you shop, they will feel like they need to be open. Our kids want their Daddy with them on Thanksgiving Day, and I do too! I’m sure we aren’t the only ones.
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 7:12 NIV
For Those Who Will Be Shopping…
If you decide to shop anyway, make sure that you put on a happy face and show the love of Christ to those around you, even when they are pushing and shoving. (That’s easier said than done. I know.) Be extra kind to the workers. Consider even giving them a small gift as you you check out.
A Few Gift Ideas for Everyone
For those of you who are going to stay home on Friday (or those who want to experience the joy of shopping both ways), here are the top 2 gifts on my kids’ lists (and more below!). We thought you might find them amusing too. There is nothing super spiritual about these gifts, but check back over the next few days for advent links and suggested Bible books to help keep Christ in your child’s Christmas. Without further adieu…
Pie Face. We saw fun video about this game and it looks like a big hit. I can only imagine the laughter that would ensue from my children when I was hit in the face!
A Drone. Some of you might have mixed feelings about this one. As long as you don’t fly it over any restricted areas, you should stay out of trouble!
Here are a few more fun ideas my kids like:

Black Friday shopping is never something we really took part in, and I’m always glad for it when I watch the news the following day. Without fail, someone gets hurt or worse. I really feel for the employees who, I’m sure, would much rather be safe at home with their families!

It is quite sad!

I do not enjoy being in crowds, especially frenzied crowds. I don’t think I have ever gone out on Black Friday. I am usually at home in turkey coma, watching a movie with family or snuggled somewhere cozy with a book. 😉

I gave up going black friday shopping a long time ago. Too much greed and selfishness out there and I sometimes react and not respond so I would rather not tempt myself.

That is an interesting and honest take on it. Very good point!

I like going. Have most years for that matter. But… I also like sleep, so I’m rarely headed anywhere before 7am.
This year I’m only going to two stores, the rest of my little bit of shopping will be done online by going through ebates and getting even bigger savings! (visit my site and search for ebates where I explain how I use it to save)

Yes to Ebates!

I went to Walmart last year. I left after 5 minutes. They wrap up all the items in the aisles and then open them right at the start. I went to Target and everyone was polite and helpful. I’ll probably stay home this year though:)

I hate shopping on an ordinary day, so there is no way I would want to brave the crazy crowds.

I really want a drone! I think they are so cool and would be so fun to use. Thanks for sharing your black friday thoughts and experiences.

Thanks. I think we are going to get my son one, though not the $600 one that he really likes! Hopefully he won’t be too disappointed!

I have never and probably will never participate in Black Friday. I get it that the deals are great but I feel that the greed and safety issues aren’t worth the deals.
