Today’s adventure…the Holy Ghost!

This lesson is not an endorsement for Halloween, but an understanding that since we are in the world, we will probably see Halloween ghost decorations as we are out and about.  This is a way to associate something wonderful with what can otherwise be scary or strange.

Whooo is God? An Autumn Family Bible Adventure

The Holy Ghost:  God Lives In Our Hearts

Intro:  What do you know about the Holy Spirit?  How can He help us?

Prayer:  Dear God, as we study the Holy Spirit, please lead us and help us to know You better.  Help us not to be afraid, but to know that you are always with us, living in our hearts if we love you.  Thank you!  In Jesus holy name, Amen.

Key Verses:  Read and discuss…

“For sure, I baptize with water those who are sorry for their sins and turn from them. The One Who comes after me (Jesus) will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. He is greater than I…”  Matthew 3:11 NLV

When we decide to follow Jesus, He gives us the Holy Spirit.  Do you have the Holy Spirit inside of you?

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends[a] of the earth.”  Acts 1:8 HCSB

How does it feel to know that we have power from the Holy Spirit?  How can we use the Holy Spirit’s power?

…the Holy Spirit helps us where we are weak. We do not know how to pray or what we should pray for, but the Holy Spirit prays to God for us with sounds that cannot be put into words.”  Romans 8:26 NLV

How does it feel to know that the Holy Spirit, who lives in us, knows exactly what we need to pray for, and prays for us?

Thoughts to Ponder:

  • How would your days be different if you always remembered that the Holy Spirit lives in you?
  • What are some changes you would like to make with the power of the Holy Spirit?

Prayer:  Thank God for not just loving for us and caring for us, but for actually sending His Spirit to live in us and give us power.  Pray that you will remember the Holy Spirit is with you and that, with the power of the Holy Spirit, you will make a positive difference.

Worship:

Sing “Set a Fire” or “Holy Spirit.”

Family Adventures:

  • Enjoy some Holy Ghost strawberries!
  • Do a Holy Ghost science experiment and talk about the power of the Holy Ghost!
  • Make some Holy Ghost art and write one of our Bible verses along the bottom.  You could make a whole Holy Ghost family!

Spread the Love:

Make a Holy Ghost Treat Bag and write one of the above verses along the bottom.  Fill it with goodies and pass it on!

This sounds like a great plan.
